Have I been the only one to wish we had one? Well, we've got one now:  :P

It's cool to look at y'all's sites in one place!

carrying on from the other thread, i was talking about a php script that you could setup and have people add there own sites, you could authorize each site so that only LP sites get on and people could link an image and a description to the site.

if you're interested i would be happy to find one and set it up for you :-) we used to have one setup here at Lunarpages but the staff were tobusy to update it often so it got closed down.

if you were to do this i'd be happy to set this up on my moderators account and administer it with you, i dont have anything on it at the moment :-)

Thanks, Garvey.  I'll take you up on that.  Just remember that I am a ultra newbie as far as scripts go...

Would using this script require me to be diligent about updating the software for security reasons - or is it a "set it and forget it" thing?

Whatever you can come up with that will be simple, I'm game.  Just tell me what to do.

Also, before it goes much further, I'd like to think of a better way to organize them.  Currently they're listed by order of who's posted the most, but I think either by subject or even just alphabetically might be better.

What do you think?

Another method is have someone who has access to the forum's database write the script so that it could access the db, which would contain people's username, site, and site name. Or have someone write the script and have an LP admin use it here with the correct mysql info.

Rick, it would be pretty much set it and forget it, i could help you over instant chat, or i could put the script up for you, upto you, mostof the scripts have the option to sort them by alphabetical order, or even put them into categorys chosen when they are put in.

i haven't heard of these scripts being hacked before or anything like that, but if there was a patch or something released i'd sure as hell be theretohelp you apply it :-)

CubeGuy, thanks for the enthusiasm :thumb:.

Garvey, I appreciate your offer to do it.  The page as it is is just text and pics in a table.  Can you take that and make something and show me what it would look like and how it would work?

Thu, newbie-me doesn't understand:

1. What, about your first sentence, is different than Garvey's idea?

I'm picturing a page like a Forum Page, where the user can enter his info.  Isn't this what you're both suggesting?

2. And I don't understand what you mean by "have an LP admin use it here with the correct mysql info."

Remember folks, my most significant web-design skill is pasting text and pics into a table!  :)

My idea is different because it doesn't have people submit information, but rather take information that already exists in the forum's database from people entering it in their profiles here.

Only LP admin would have the correct SQL data to allow the script access to the db info.

I'm sorry, but aren't you a paid web designer?

Hey, I like that idea!  Hit a button and whammy:  any user who has a website in the profile gets put on the webpage.

Yea, I know...it can't be that simple!

And yes, I have a whopping 3 paid customers now.  I'm so cheap because of my limited skills!  My target customers are ones who only need the basics, so can be satisfied with what I'm able to do.

While I'll always jump for joy at someone interested in my services, I'll never boast about my skills  :)

I just went to the forum's member list and sorted based on website... the first several were just http://

after that there were a few http:///, http://-/, http://a, etc. etc. So, unfortunately, just tying to the member database of the forum here won't provide as simple and accurate a solution as it should since there are several invalid entries in the system... there are even some listed as home.com, so even a script that tries to validate the website as accurate isn't going to catch everything since there will be "valid" entries which aren't "real"...

It will have to be something more voluntary like originally suggested since incorrect information is being entered into the db for this forum in that field...

The above information may or may not reflect current policy, opinions, or views since it was likely made almost 10 years ago.

So, Garvey, would you like to work something up that is akin to a guestbook, where users could enter the info - and have the info get added to the page?

Thanks Garvey!

And just a note: There are now 130 entries: www.jackson8.com/lfsites

These are the LF members who 1. have a website shown in their member profile, and 2. have at least 100 posts, or 3. have less than 100 posts but have submitted their info to me for addition to it.

I'll stop manually entering them until we see what we can work up to allow people to submit them themselves.

One thing, though: Will there be a way to stop people from entering an Affiliate link?  I don't think Affiliate links should be on it.  What do you think?
