Working on a new look to my rather lame, tired site.  The new site is still in its infancy, but I have a general layout.  The only links that work are the News links.  Can y'all take a look and give me any ideas?  Thanks!

Site is now live at http://www.autorepaircd.com
A lot of people asked about those drop downs.  They'll be up later today.  I'll come back and let you know where, but most likely at

very sexy little drop down menus, but i'd say change that tools background, it's to bright i think it kind of interferes with the text. but very cool site besides that. I like the drop menus alot.

I like the overall layout.
Main body text spans too far across page(maybe an invisi table is needed)
I like the basic idea of the back ground...but
the spanners are the wrong texture (maybe more metalic looking..... plus a few gears might give it a lift.( i think i have some if your intersted)
And i agree its too bright.
Also love the whole concept of your site, very useful indeed

Thanks all, gonna change the background.  Yes, please, post a gear, Shadow.  Figure I'll have nuts, bolts too.  The width was due to a mistyped table width (td width=5800 sheesh).  I always try to design sites so they'll have no horiz. scroll even at 640 (full screen).
I made new buttons-Phototshop RuLeZ! (no more yucky gold ones).
As for the concept, I've been an auto tech for about 25 years.  Wanted to combine my two skills, and just thought what it is that my customers ask/tell me more than anything?  I came up with "I used to work on my own car, but on this new car, with all its computers and stuff, I'm afraid to touch it".  Also, how to find a decent mechanic -what questions to ask, etc.
I'll repost the URL: http://www.autorepaircd.com/new

TWM,
I am so    ,
The gears i was talking about were part of the image sprayer of corel 7 plus ,..i'm now using corel 10 and they did not use it on there.
but i will look elsewhere for you, or maybe even make a couple up.
if all else fails i'll re install corel 7+
anyhow will see what i can do.

Hey, don't sweat it.  I can find gears.  It is a good idea. Gonna do nuts 'n bolts too.  Want to keep them simple, and going to darken it for more of a blend.  Did make the new buttons.  Haven't done much else.  Just when I thought it was safe, I'm finding more and more surprises in Dreamweaver.  Like a good marriage getting better!
I've started assembling content (so the layout sits now) which is going to be a formidable task!  But in the process, I'll be seriously brushing up on the MySQL/php stuff, (not to mention perl, js, and anything else I can conjure up to actually make this work), and I'll post anything I feel relevant to our beloved users.
Have fun, and thanks! *running off to check psp tubes!*

Did ya like my little 404 page?  Just click on one of the drop menu items under vehicles to get to it (most of them lead to non-existent pages)

i just had an apiffany (however you spell it), i think the drop down menues backgrounds should be different from the pages background color, they blend in to much. when i first went over one i was like "where did it go?!" but i realized where it was. maybe a shade of gray just a tad lighter or darker. still a very cool website.

Geeez TWebMan you've obviously been spending heaps of time on your site!

It's looking bloody beaut, my only criticism is the wrenchy spanner thingamajingys in the background kinda takes my focus off your text and as a result it's a lil harder to read.

Agree with you Brian 'bout the drop down menus.  Something as simple as a fine black border on those would do the trick and make them stand out.

Good job ole chap!

Ok her is the scoop    *lame line #1*

First thing i looked at were tools on the background... Do you want that to happen? I think background should be just a light shade of grey with right menu/table featuring pictures/info about your program. For example, cover of the cd, maybe a sentence or two about the product and reviews of the product, punch lines. Such as BEST PRODUCT I HAVE EVER USED. HELPED ME FIX MY CAR IN INSTANT. Or something creative like that to spice up the page *im sure youll have 0 probs with this one*. (lame line #2)

Second thing i noticed are the buttons, ok lookig good, but WHAT'S THIS, they don't seem to work, then i realized they do work but the grey layer background was so confusing, i could hardly tell when the layers pop up. Maybe switch the color of the layers to differ from background, so it looks like something is popping up, and i don't have to eyeball the page to figure out that the layered menu has popped up. (i use word popping too much)

Then i thought that the top navigation menu and left menu are too close together. It is to your preference of course, BUT it was a bit confusing. First layer menu coming up so close to the left hand side box looked strange a bit. It gave me that *what am i looking at* feeling and i had to focus to figure out whats going on. That might not be the effect you wish to perceive for your visitors. (you confused yet? I am)

I am VERY intrigued by the project, i read the whole preview of the cd and it is mind boggling that you could possibly fit so much info on a cd WOW. I admire you greatly for that knowledge. (can we be friends when you get real rich??!!!)

Upon another look my suggestions would be, and these are just general suggestions that you might want think on    (yeah right, better change the site or Ill email you 500 times with blank emails... jk)

One: Change the background so it blends in more.

Two: Change the color of top Navigation bar so people KNOW it is a navigation bar, maybe change the text color on it or make it stand out more, as it is now nav bar blends in quite a bit, and it is harder than it should be to recognize it's importance.

Three: I know you will do this, but im recommending it anyhow    Add some pictures, on maybe right hand side table/layer etc. Some quick info about the product. Your contact info. (hehe made me look good to point out obvious facts of what your going to do next)

AND MOST IMPORTANT, KEEP UP THE AWESOME WORK, with your knowledge of scripting your website will be eye candy and something people will flock to, for all their car problems. BAM, ultimate goal in web design achieved.

As Amy said, *Good job ole chap!* VERY nice work WebMan, i can honestly say im impressed. (can i have a dollar) How about e-mailing me the script for the menu now   .

*...frantically copying and pasting Santos' post....YEAH...good line changes!....*
I'll get a script up for those dropdowns.  It's a little bit involved, so I want to make sure whoever grabs it will know where to plug in the variables.  I'm talking about normal people, not us!
All the suggestions from everyone make very good sense, and I'm going to use them.  Actually, I had stopped on layout work (was about modify the background when this *sleep* thing came over me last night...okay, okay, a while ago this morning).  I stopped layout work because I changed my template and the whole site blew up (oops), but also, I layed down the basic content doorway.  Most of the content will be pulled from a database.  There's only a few records and the only working category is Electrical.
http://www.autorepaircd.com/dat/auto-online.php
Once you go there, you'll see where I'm heading with the online component of the product.
Everything you said is in the works.  I don't have a professionally designed CD cover yet, have a print-graphics friend (does trifolds and such) that I'll probably be employing.  The customer feedback will come, but I'm not going to post any hype.  It will all come in its time (like good wine?).  Gonna go do that background thing right now.  Thanks bunches!  ThankYouThankYouThankYou

I can't do much but second what everyone's already said - the bg is distracting, and making the drop downs a different shade would help. But otherwise, it's easily navigable and well laid out!
