Moving WordPress site from subdomain to addon
« on: February 25, 2015, 11:04:03 PM »
I've been building a site using WordPress using the subdomain (which was the default when I registered the domain); however, I want to publish it as an addon domain. Right now all of the wp files are at targetdomain.maindomain.com, but I want this to be at targetdomain.com. What do I have to do to move the WordPress site?

It was my intention to create the site at the default subdomain location, then push it to the addon domain. Was that a bad idea?

Can I just use cpanel to create the addon domain (targetdomain.com) and then change the WordPress Address (URL) setting in WordPress General Settings? Or is this going to be more difficult, such as uploading copies of the backup files to target.com?

Thanks much for any help,

George

On the Lunarpages side, you will need to create the add-on and then physically move the files from the subdomain to the add-on (the directory structure changes). On the WordPress side, there should be a way to update its internal settings to point to the new domain and physical file location. I don't know if this is something WP can do for you "one click" style, or if you have to manually edit some configuration files (I don't use WP myself).

I moved your thread over to here, as it's mostly a question about WordPress.
