WordPress "unknown message digest algorithm"
« on: September 09, 2015, 03:49:53 AM »
I'm getting "unknown message digest algorithm" errors all over my WordPress install. It's displaying where the WordPress news should be in the dashboard, and now, it's showing up as an error, when I try to update my WP plugins, causing the update to fail. I expect I'll run into the same error, the next time WordPress itself needs an update. Best I can find via websearches, is that it's some kind of server/host setting. My site is on Sabik.

 :help:

"some kind of server/host setting" isn't very useful. Can you be more specific about what you found (what was suggested)? If no one here on LunarForums can help, be sure to read/post on WordPress-specific discussion groups.

Has this WP installation been running OK, and then just suddenly started giving errors? LP has started upgrading servers to PHP 5.4, so maybe your WP code is old and incompatible with PHP 5.4. An immediate upgrade to the latest WP may be in order. If this is already current WP or is a new installation, and has never worked, it could be a configuration problem. In any case, we would need more specific information on what has been suggested you try.

That's all the detail, I could find. :? I keep the install up to date. It's been having trouble with the WP news, but this is the first time I've had a problem with updating anything.

The news shows this: RSS Error: WP HTTP Error: error:0D0890A1:asn1 encoding routines:ASN1_verify:unknown message digest algorithm

Update failure gives me this: Download failed. error:0D0890A1:asn1 encoding routines:ASN1_verify:unknown message digest algorithm

EDIT: Also seeing this error, on update fail: Warning: An unexpected error occurred. Something may be wrong with WordPress.org or this serverís configuration. If you continue to have problems, please try the support forums. (WordPress could not establish a secure connection to WordPress.org. Please contact your server administrator.) in /home/quant17/public_html/wp/wp-admin/includes/plugin-install.php on line 83

This thread: https://wordpress.org/support/topic/getting-download-failed-error0d0890a1asn1-encoding-routinesfunc137reason suggests that your LP server has an "outdated version of curl and/or the OpenSSL library". You could open a support ticket and request that your server be updated, or, if it is scheduled too far in the future, have your site moved to an updated server. Considering how many people run WP and will be affected, I would think LP would find it easier to bring its servers up to date than to move accounts around.

Thank you! My search-fu is weak, and I didn't see that thread. Support ticket it is.

Thanks, again! :thumb: :yey:
