Does anyone have tips and suggestions on installing ELGG?

I hope to install it here, but hoped that someone else has been successful.

Thanks, Mike

Could you provide us with a source link and/or the requirements?

The basic requirements look OK for one of the shared hosting plans, however like with some of the YouTube clone scripts out there I'd just be careful to watch how your new resource is used and how much it grows.  Depending on your target group or audience, you might not want to rule out the idea of upgrading to a VPS or the like down the road if needed.

I am an ex elgg user, i installed it awhile back for use as one of my social sites, at first it was fine but then things began to change, first there are mods that you can get but bottom line is they are not supported, yes you might be lucky enough to get help for awhile, but if the person who did the mod decides to not upgrade it when a new version of elgg comes out your screwed, then you have to take that feature away from  your members because it wont work.

Also many of the people on thier forums are simply jerks, you ask a simple question and some will try to answer but the majority will just beat you down and make you feel like an idiot...

and then the way elgg processes, it uses alot of memory and system resources, it was fine for a while but then i began to have issues with things freezing up, pages not loading, and so i went thru weeks and weeks of having to spend time to tweek my server settings and my htaccess and my php ini files to make it work better, elgg is slapped together in my opinion by a bunch of wanna be programmers and hacks, their architechure is crazy the way the do things. in my opinion what happened is that they orginally had a bad base and rather than fix that first they just piled code and cosmetic fixes over it and now its nuts...

i finally said screw elgg and did my own thing, im much happier now and so is my server...

i do not recommend elgg for anyone..
