Hi,

I have a phpbb forum which is getting bigger & bigger. The database size is 50MB already. But, so far I haven't noticed any significant slowdown. (I use gzip compression.)

My Q's:

1. Should I be worried about the rapidly growing db? Is this a real issue for phpbb forums?
2. If yes, how should I be prepared?

I see that lunarforums is a really huge forum, so I hope you guys can advice. Any pointers would be nice.

The size of a database isn't really going to affect speed that much unless it is huge. In terms of site slowdowns and excess resouce usage, I'd be more concerned about the number of people accessing a site at once and how they are using the site. The database design for phpBB is good from what I remember, so accessing information stored in the DB is fast even when it is fairly large.

Lunarforums is a fairly active forum, but it isn't what I would call "huge".

I would not be worried rr2000, I have five forums plus one test board and one board for an integrated user table all running in one database (so that the integrated user table works - register once, can post on all boards).

The database is currently 634Mb.

I would call my main board "medium sized". If you want to see big forums then check big-boards.com. The biggest phpBB forum in the world is Gaia Online with 227,224,428 posts.

Adrian, but you are on the enterprise plan though, right?

Thanks all. That's a relief.  Thumbs Up

Typically my forum has about 30-50 users max at a time, I guess it's nothing.  Razz
