The first thing I noticed on this forum is that this forum uses SMF as a forum software.  I have heard this is a free replacement for vBulletin.

But this is SMF v1 and I am planning to install SMF v2 on one of my sites.

My question is:  Is it possible to have an SMF 2 forum with all features of this Lunarpages forum?

I can't think of any reason that SMF 2 would not run on an LP server. Go to the simplemachines.org site and get the system requirements, and compare them to LP. I don't think they've substantially changed from SMF 1.1. PHP 5 may be required now, but that's available (and is probably now the default) on all LP servers.

The most likely reason that LP is still running 1.1 is that 2.0 is still "Release Candidate" (not quite Golden), and is still subject to quite a bit of change. It's understandable that LP doesn't want to fool with maintaining such a system, and is waiting for SMF 2 to go Gold.
