Ok ive read through all the tutorials and honestly my forum files are so heavily modified with the database that when i did an upgrade my entire website disappeared and i only received a bunch of php errors.

The tutorial posted in the sticky on top of this section of the lunarforums tells me to find the old zip file of the version that i currently have on my website, i dont have that file anymore so i got no clue what version i have. Not sure what files im supposed to use then.

Anyway, i decided then just to take the specific precautions to the security update and did what it said in this thread: http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=288194

So that is done and everything works nicely, except that my forum is still disabled and gives me this message:

The Following PHPBB Forum was disabled for security reasons. If you are the webmaster of this forum please contact your web host for more detail.

HELP! What do i do.. ive asked lunarpages to enable my forum again, but if this continues for one more day i wont have anymore users or visitors left.. ive already dropped 1/6 of all my visitors from one day.  Crying or Very sad

Hello there,

My recommendation is to not use phpBB at all, unless you keep track of all the issues going on and upgrade/patch it often. If this was done previously you would avoid this problem.

A quick solution to your problem would be to covert your phpBB to another system, like Invision Power Board, or SMF.

I hope that helps.

I can't help with your problem but I can tell you SMF updating is incredibly easy. It is a click of a button and themes and mods are not affected. I love SMF and would recommend it to anybody. It has a lot of nice features.

Invision Power Board isn't free, so I'm not going to recommend a forum that costs money (more than vBulletin in fact) to the user.  I would recommend SMF and here is a link to the how-to I did on installing SMF and converting phpBB to it:

http://www.lunarforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=25926

Your phpBB doesn't even have to be running per se to do the conversion so long as the configuration file is there for SMF to access it, which it still should be despite the disabling.

Thanks.

Hello, If I were going to go with another forum, I would also choose SMF.
However, if you want to keep your current forum, I would recommend using method 1 of this tutorial. http://www.lunarforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=16952

You will lose all of your mods, but you wont lose your posts or members.
Once you are ready to run the upgrade script, email support@lunarpages.com to enable you forum, so that you can upgrade it.

I wouldn't advise waiting too long to run the upgrade once you have done this, as the script will find that the forum is an older version, and just disable it again. Once it is upgraded, however, you will not have to worry about that.

I would recommend that you take a look at SMF.
Danielle has even provided a tutorial for installing and converting from phpBB. Nice tutorial, Danielle.  Thumbs Up
