I would like to update to the newer version of mambo 4.5.2 - I have seen this install on another system/site and I would like to leverage the improvements made.

I queried tech supp. and was told that the update schedule was mandated by Fantastico, and that they played no direct role in updating but I could proceed on my own.

I would like to, but I have no experience with something like this, or even in a Linux environment.

Fairly solid skills on this end, just wandering into deep, dark waters with this

Help would be grateful, but be easy on me.

I also would like to update to Mambo 4.5.2. I already tried it and . . .  Embarassed  guess I was swimming in waters a little too deep. I had to reinstall the current version. I loaded 4.5.2 into the directory without problems. When trying to view my site, I kept getting SQL error messages. I don't know much about SQL. Is there an easier automated way other than through Fantastico?

There is probably an update script you need to run to update the database. Did you read the documentation on what to do after copying files over?
