Hi,
I installed Moodle via Fantastico CPanel.  I am having performance issues because the site loads extremely slow. I've changed the theme several times thinking that it would improve the speed but it didn't. Here is the performance link from pingdom.  I was told to maybe install a cache accelerator but I have no idea how to do that. Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Susan

You are not the only one experiencing problems and I don't think it has anything to do with the Fantastico installation either.  I have a relatively large non-Fantastico Moodle installation on LunarPages and we have had nothing but problems during the last couple of weeks.  We get database connection errors etc, when there is not that heavy a load on the server - we are still in the process of loading students for the new semester.  I have no idea what is going on but something is very wrong somewhere.  Our resource usage stats show relatively large amounts of CPU and memory usage.  I find this odd when I know that there's not that large a number of people accessing it.  I have also checked the folders for any sign of a hack but can find none so there are no strange, rogue scripts running.  I'm baffled and just a little fed up. Confused

I'm not sure how much experience you have with Moodle but rather do a manual installation without using Fantastico.  For one thing, Fantastico places the data folder in the Moodle folder which is not at all advisable.  In fact, the data folder needs to be in the root folder.

I'm not sure if you are able to set up a cache accelerator such as eAccelerator on a shared hosting plan.  I'm sure the support desk could help with that.

I received notice that my scripts are hitting the limit of 256M, which baffles me.  All I did was install Moodle, I have not even added any content yet.  This is what I was told: "We checked your account and it is hitting the limits of CloudLinux ...It seems your scripts require more than the allowed memory to run, please optimize your scripts and ensure that they are consuming normal resources". I haven't done anything to those scripts why would they be consuming abnormal resources? I am baffled and ready to throw in the towel.

Hmmmmmm .... I was not aware until now that LunarPages had changed to another Linux OS. We were given no warning of this whatsoever. This explains a lot.  If they are going to put those sort of limitations on people then I suggest that they no longer offer Moodle as a Fantastico install in cPanel on a 'Basic' shared package, because it will definitely use more resources than are actually available.  The slowness of your 'barebones' installation is proof of this.

When we initially subscribed to the 'Basic' package it did not stipulate, as it does now on the LunarPages home page, that the basic package is only for use with blogs, personal web sites and small projects.  The fact is that our package is obviously no longer able to support our needs.  Well, guess what?  We will be moving, ASAP, to another webhost.
