Hi gang, I've read some posts that seem to contradict each other, so I thought I'd go ahead and post my question. I'm trying to upgrade PHPBB from 2.0.12 to 2.0.13. I have backed up EVERYTHING in that folder onto my hard drive. Is there a way to now do a simple upgrade using cPanel? Where do I go in cPanel to get this done? Frankly, I'm confused about several of the steps that are involved in doing it manually.
Thanks in advance.

If you can't design an attractive, standards-compliant website using nothing more than Notepad and a decent graphics editor, you need to rethink your approach to web design.

If you installed PHPBB VIA Fantastico then there should be an upgrade ontion within Fantastico, if you did it VIA manual install, then you can't do an upgrade VIA CPanel.

I originally installed it via Fantastico, and I'm having a tough time finding a link in there to upgrade with cPanel.

Lupus and Ryom, thanks for your quick responses. I'm still in the dark here. I need to make a correction: I'm actually upgrading from 2.0.11 to 2.0.13, not from 2.0.12 to 2.0.13. I wonder if Fantastico won't let me upgrade it via cPanel, due to the fact that I've already manually changed some files (just minor ones, like the header logo).
Quite frankly, I've downloaded the file to upgrade it manually, but I'm just not getting it. Idea: Is it possible to remove the entire module itself, replace it with 2.0.13, then add in everything that pertains to posts, members, and settings? I have, of course, backed up the entire existing phpBB folders and files to my hard drive. Twice.
I'll keep at it until I get it. Until then, I appreciate all the help I can get! Thanks.

If you are at all open to switching forums, you should consider SMF. It has a built-in updater. I don't want to be forcing the idea on you, but if you are open to it, I'm sure you won't regret it. It would save a lot of trouble.

Thanks Thu, I may need to consider that at some point in the future, if this doesn't work out. I hope you're not saying this might be too much for me Actually, I've deleted all of the existing phpBB folders and files, minus the config.php file, as instructed in the post dealing with upgrades. I'm uploading the 2.0.13 files as we speak, minus the config.php file, of course. Here is where I'm getting a bit confused: CHMOD the config.php to 644. chmod all files to 644, directories to 755, and graphics to 744. After you have uploaded all files, type in your forum URL followed by, /install/update_to_latest.php.
You will be presented with a screen that shows the progress of the update. After that delete the install and contrib folders. You can then delete the folder you created on your desktop. What is CHMOD, and how do I go about changing these files? Thanks again, everybody, for your help.

if your in an FTP program, you would right click and go to properties, permissions are chmod... if your in file manager click on the filenames and you'll see permissions uyp at the top right. they are NORMALLY already set right. http://www.webweaver.nu/html-tips/chmod.shtml this shows you what it's like

So if they're set right, and once I get the new phpBB uploaded via ftp, I'm done? All except for putting my logo header back in place, of course, but I will do that at the very end.

Thanks Thu, I may need to consider that at some point in the future, if this doesn't work out. I hope you're not saying this might be too much for me No, I'm just saying you can save yourself trouble currently and in the future. I have recommended smf to a frustrated user and he seems to be a satisfied user, and taking advantage of the smf features. I just upgraded smf this morning and it took less than a minute. If I had installed any mods, it wouldn't have been a problem because I could have reinstalled them again, automagically. But if you can do this upgrade with phpbb, that's cool.
