I am trying to decide on which one to try.  Can anyone provide some experiences with either setup be it good, bad, or indifferent?  They seem so identical.  What I ultimately sell is downloadable content and eventually VTM's on DVD.  (video training modules)

TIA

I have looked at both but only used OsCommerce. I like OsCommerce because it is highly customisable, has bunches of mods (contributions) for it to make it work the way you want, and great support on their website at http://oscommerce.com with forums and FAQs. I didn't see nearly as much at http://cubecart.com though it is still a good cart.

I have also only used osCommerce. It worked perfectly fine and the open source community for it was great. I was able to customize the shoping card to fit my site perfectly. Thumbs Up

Which one is easier to install, customize, and get going?

They are both easy to install since we have auto-installers for them. I would go with oscommerce. You can see a basic install at http://dangsites.com/catalog and you can see one customized and actually in use at http://idahosilverjewelry.com/catalog Some folks have customized it so much that you can't even tell it is oscommerce.

don`t know anything about CubeCard, but I can ensure you that without PHP knowladge you won`t be able to make working osCommerce. This is from my own experience. If you are newbie, believe me you will spend more time on osCommerce forum asking people for help than building your shop. Good Luck Thumbs Up
Let me know if things goes the way you want, not the way it worked for me. Thanks Wink

Cubecart is also PHP. A basic OsCommerce install is very easy, it is the customizing that requires a bit of effort depending on how much you want to customize it. It's free, you can change it as little or as much as you want, and their is lots of help available including the links I posted.

If you really can't do it, you might try using one of the sites that create it all for you in cookie cutter fashion such as http://2checkout.com or http://www.mals-e.com
