Just received this....

phpBB Group announces the release of phpBB 2.0.12. This release
addresses a couple of potential exploits and fixes a number of issues
involving path disclosures, etc. It also introduces a new ACP based
version check (language package maintainers please note the
additional localisation required for this). For further information
please see our announcements forum at www.phpbb.com:

http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=265423

As with all new releases we urge you to upgrade as soon as possible.
You can of course find this download available on our website at:

http://www.phpbb.com/downloads.php

As per usual three packages are available to simplify your upgrade.
Upgrade information using the mod template should be available
shortly (for those who prefer this method).

Just completed the upgrade.  I'm not sure if this was the case before, but I notice that you cannot log in now unless you have deleted the /install and /contrib directories.  I was getting worried because I hadn't yet deleted those directories and couldn't log in.

While trying to figure out the problem I did run across something that sparked a question.  I notice that the config.php contains a db password.  Is that a security risk?  If not, why not?

Thanks,
Ron

If I can actually download the upgrade. All the mirrors are reporting that the upgrade file was not found for download.

Well right now it's telling me to select a mirror and none of the mirrors have the files Sad

The same is happening for me as well:

Code:
The mirror you've selected, belnet.dl.sourceforge.net does not currently have the file you requested. (This is an error on our part which will be fixed).
You are requesting file: /phpbb/phpBB-2.0.12.tar.bz2
Please select a mirror

Any of the choices (zip, gzip, bz2) and any of the mirrors are returning the above Sad

There is a post on the phpBB community forum that tells you where to download it while sourcforge figures out their problems.  Just make sure you take the link they give you and copy and paste it into your browser.  Their hotlink protection will give you an error if you simply click on the link.

Here is that post:

The new version of the board is cool because it doesn't have the version number in the footer. This should help keep the script kiddies from googling potential victims based on board version. Of course, you can't really keep the script kiddies from doing anything.

Before anybody gets upset with me, allow me to add this: The version number is available in your administration panel - just not on the sub-user pages. So you won't have to worry about forgetting which version you are running.

OH, I dunno I've been so flippy-floppy with forum software choices lately...[to add in if I like the phpbb or not].

Personally, I can't wait for that "next" version of phpbb...it's going to make all them competitors do that much better then just say "we're not phpbb..." lol.

The feature set for phpBB3 does look interesting, but apparently the styles for v3 will not be compatible (all for good reasons) so migration upward may upset some folks.

Having just started a couple of new boards myself and just upgraded them to 2.0.12 (and yes, it was easy), I'm not in a massive rush to customize much on them till I see what v3 brings.... </phpBB Novice>

Sorry to bring back this fading thread, but I just upgraded to this version of the BB.  I went to cpanel, then bulletin board, then clicked the upgrade button.  In about 1 second I was told the upgrade was a success.  Does this sound accuate?  Is it really this simple or am I missing something?  Why do I keep reading long drawn out instructions on how to upgrade?

If you installed it through fantastico it's just one click upgrade, but if you manually installed it, then it takes a bit more work.
