This is kind of a stupid question, but I'm pretty new to PHP..

I'd like a 'sidebar' on the left side of my index page with links to sites of my choice, and a search box to either search google, or my forum.

I found 'Sidebar and Search Box on Index' at PHPBBHacks, but I'm lost on how to customize it; I want small font and my own links.
