Can someone tell me about SMF and if it's better than phpBB.  

"Better" to me means:

1.  More secure
2.  Easy to upgrade
3.  Easy to maintain mods

And as a follow-up, is it easy to convert a phpBB site to SMF?

Thanks Milton.  I think I will install in parallel and see how I like it compared to phpBB.

Thanks Milton.  I think I will install in parallel and see how I like it compared to phpBB.


Hi Trig, I am currently doing the same thing. I have installed SMF parallel and converted my phpbb to it. Essentially a snapshot. I am now having my users check it out and hopefully tell me their opinion of it. If I do go with it, I will repeat the conversion to get the updated phpbb data and then get rid of phpbb.  Not sure how long to run this, but we'll see.
