I hope I haven't simply missed the obvious...
I've installed wordpress through the lunarpages CP/WebApps and the blog is 'there'. When I try to log in, either through the link under 'meta' on the blog page or through my link in the WebApp page I get the message "Invalid username". I used the new username generated in the installation (my lunarpages name + random letters). I don't get it. When I look at the help files for WordPress, there is some talk of rewriting part of the wp-login.php file and it all started to look more involved than required.
Actually, now I am sort of hoping I have missed the obvious and that this will be simple to rectify. It had all better be simple to use; I'm setting this up for my dad to use. I haven't used WordPress yet but everyone keeps telling me it is idiot proof.

No, I get the same message; Invalid username.
I get that with the random-letter username from the wordpress set up and if I try with my lunarpages username.

Alright, just double checked a LPCP WordPress install, looks like you need to login with what you setup as the "Administrator's preferences" in the setup process. The default "Administrator's login" should have been filled in as "admin" then you setup the password and "Administrator's email". So might try admin as the user name, or confirm that what you typed into those boxes is what you are trying to login with.

Thank you Mitch & katrina1, that's done it. I can log in as admin, there are no other users listed. I just need to add Dad as a user and he should be good to go.

Even with a 5 minute install, WordPress now assigns your username as 'admin' as default. The last new install I did was 2.2.x or something and I don't remember WordPress using this convention back then.

While you're all here....  The admin panel is showing: WordPress 2.8.4 is available! Please update now. with a link. Is this an approved update method? Any gremlins to watch for? |

You'll just have to remember to keep using WordPress's internal upgrader to upgrade to the latest version, each time one comes out. |
