Hi,

I'm not 100% sure how the whole DNS system works so was hoping someone could answer my question:

Background
I currently have a shared hosting account but it has been using its limit of resources. This is due to a certain feature on my site that only really operates during the month of march. So what I want to do is upgrade to a VPS plan for one month, then back to my old account after that time.

Question
Does anyone know if it is possible to do this: open a new VPS account, upload all my files/databases etc then when im happy its working could I just update my name servers to point to my VPS account. Meanwhile my old shared account would still exist but just not be used. After one month when my VPS account expires could I just update the name servers to point back to my old account and continue on my way?

I need to get set up as soon as possible so I appreciate anyone who could help me out

Cheers

Hi Igotthepower,

I would recommend not upgrading of your current shared account, but signing up for the VPS plan and then canceling it when the server is not needed. The rest of your plan should work fine.

Yes you could do that, but if your account is using up all of its resources (and perhaps being a resource hog to the other people on your shared server) the VPS or Dedicated may be a better way to go.

It would be a lot of effort both for LunarPages and yourself to setup a VPS just for one month.
