I am new to the VPS environment. I am currently getting my sites setup and moved from my shared accounts.

Now... I have set up my domains on a backup schedule and those backups are put in the ftp backup storage that is provided by LunarPages.... I am curious about the backups. When I backup a domain, are the databases that are associated with that domain included in that backup?

Hi,

Plesk backups all domain's settings and data. Thus, associated databases also should be included in the backup archive.

I hope this helps.

Jupiter,

Do you mind listing details on exactly the steps you followed to get your sites set up for automatic backup? I'd like to get a similar backup process set up automatically on my Plesk server as well.

Hello Phillip,

I'm not sure about the way Jupiter used, but there is a topic describing scheduled backups iunder the "Backing Up and Restoring Your Data" section of Administrator's manual (http://download1.swsoft.com/Plesk/Plesk8.1/Doc/plesk-8.1-unix-administrators-guide/index.htm) in Plesk documentation. It may be useful for your review.

I have a strange thing going on....

My backups get larger and larger everyday. Usually between 2mb and 4mb larger each day. Since I started using a VPS, my backup has from from  around 200mb to over 400mb each time and getting larger everyday.

The only thing on my site that changes is the message board database size. Nothing else ever changes unless I add files on my own. The problem is that my message board database is only about 80mb and it pretty much stays around that range because I purge old post often to keep it under 100mb. But it never fluctuates more than a few hundred k each day, so this is not causing the backup to get 2-4mb bigger each day.

So.... What else would be causing my backup to get larger and larger each day? Anyone have any ideas? Anyone having the same problem?

Hi,

Did you check the folders with your web stats and access logs? Which size do they have and how fast are they growing?

If by "associated databases" you mean SQL databases on the SQL server, then NO, then are not backed up in the backup archive.  They need to be backed up separately (http://lesuth.lunarpages.com/mylittleadmin/).

This applies only to the windows shared plan and does not concern backups on VPS and dedicated servers with Plesk.
