As others have admitted on the forum, I am new to the business of servers.  I have set up sites using virtual hosts and had a VPS with another provider.  I have recently moved to Lunarpages because of my positive experiences with their virtual hosting services.  Frankly, for the simplicity of the sites that I host, a lot of server knowledge hasn't been required.  Now, however, I seem to have run into a snag.

I successfully migrated my domains to the new server, took care of my nameserver registration and thought that all was right with the world when I saw my sites from their new home.  Even the databases work!  So far, so good.

Email, however, has proven to be a different matter.  I cannot log in (using webmail) to any of my email accounts.  This includes both those that I have migrated as well as new accounts which I have created on the new VPS.  My mail clients are unsuccessful at retrieving mail as well, with the exception of one domain.  On that domain, I can receive mail, but I cannot log in to webmail.

Additionally, sending mail to any of my domains results in various errors:
  • 550 sorry, no mailbox here by that name
  • 554 Destination server rejected recipients
  • 553 sorry, that domain isn't in my list of allowed rcpthosts

I think that it is the inconsistency of things that baffles me more than anything else.  Why don't I get the same error message for each domain?  Why does one domain handle mail while the others do not?  Why can I receive mail via a mail client, but yet I cannot log in to the same account via webmail?

Do I simply need to wait longer for the propagation?  Or are there server settings which still need to be configured?

Of course, I have opened a ticket but we know that help is not always as speedy as we would like.  Smiling  And my clients need their email.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  I am afraid that I am swimming over my head here.

I'm having the same problem. So I will need to open a ticket about this as well. Here's a topic from someone with a complictated solution however for me it's useless since I don't have a firewall icon in virtuozzo.
But maybe it's some of use to you:

Hi,

Unfortunately, this type of problems does not have the single and simple solution. Such issues are usually complex and require admin access to VPS to check logs and settings.  Only you have such access and system administrators working on the helpdesk can get it from you so the only advice would be  to work with them to get the issue with email solved.

My problem is solved and it had nothing to do with my VPS.

Somehow when I changed the IP on my nameserver, I changed ns2 correctly, but left ns1 with the old IP.   Doh  Since I changed both of them on the same page I am pretty sure I would I have gotten them both, but I have done dumber things.  I prefer to think that ns1 just didn't "take".

Anyway, thanks to LP help desk for politely pointing out my stupidity.  They could have been cruel.  I am up and running.  Should you have the same problem, it wouldn't hurt to take a look to be sure that the nameservers are resolving to your server.
