I'm thinking to upgrade my plan from shared to XEN VPS. Before I do that, I have some questions:

1. If I have my plan upgrade from shared to VPS, will all of my contents in my current shared server moved to new vps automaticlly?

2. If not, what's in the new vps, only the OS or apache/php/mysql/FTP/Email service have been installed already?

3. I register my domain with LP, should I do something for it when the server upgraded?

4. Will all of the emails in current email accounts will move to new server automaticlly?

Thanks!

Lunarpages customer support moved EVERYTHING for me when I upgraded to my VPS account (for a very reasonable fee). I don't think my site was down for more then a few minutes during the whole process.

Hi Bluefall,

The site will not "automatically" migrate from the shared server to your VPS, The techs at LP will migrate the site for you with one caveat, you have to have Cpanel on your Xen VPS, the same as on your shared site. I think that their is a reasonable hourly rate for them to move everything.

I got the Xen starter package without Cpanel, I then configured it as per Joshua's post here: http://www.lunarforums.com/vps_hosting_at_lunarpages/php_upgrade_on_xen_vps_with_lpcp_and_suphp_install_for_xen_vps_with_lpcp-t55118.0.html
and moved the sites myself. It was a bit of work, but it was a really good learning experience for me. My Xen started came with the CentOS OS, apache, php, mysql and FTP preinstalled (like I said, I had to configure as per Joshua's post, and their is no email service installed by default).

I just told them what domain I wanted moved over as the base account, I then moved my others over as add on domains, no problems there.

No email service with the account that I had, so no emails. I believe with CPanel, you will get the email service, but I am quite sure that they will not automatically transfer over.

I think I am correct, someone please correct me if I am mistaken at all. Hope this helps!
