Yes, I did check previous posts and all available help files but these issues are still unclear to me:

1. Registering name servers

The welcome e-mail asks me to register the private name servers with my registrar. However, as the domain was already registered via Lunarpages for a shared hosting plan there is no direct contact with the registrar (in my case: Tucows). At least I don't know which user name and password to use in order to log in directly there.

2. Making web service work

When I use the IP to access the new server with HTTP I get a message from Plesk saying

"If you see this page it means:
1. hosting for this domain is not configured
or
2. there's no such domain registered in Plesk "

Which steps are necessary to make the web server show the normal "index.html" file in the "httpdocs" directory?

Thanks for your help in advance!

Although, the domain was registered by Lunarpages, it is still your responsibility to create private nameservers in it as the domain owner. The username and the password will be the same as for your  account with us that you use to access the Customer Account Pages.

Usually, upload of an index file is enough to httpdocs folder is enough.

Understood. Of course I tried this before but now I found out why it didn't work: Javascript must be enabled... Problem solved, thank you.

Will this only work after the nameservers are registered and updated? I thought typing the correct IP address into my browser should already lead now to the index file. But it doesn't. Instead I get the message I quoted before.

Thanks

That's correct the domains will start pulling out from the VPS only after private nameserver registration and their setup as the domain nameservers via domain regitrar.

There can be only one default domain per IP address. More than likely, you are getting the default index mismatch be cause your domain is not setup as the default one on the IP. This is managed, under Server -> IP addresses. Please try to configure the domain as the default.
