Website down, with database connection error message
« on: July 13, 2016, 01:48:15 PM »
My website suddenly disappeared today.  Could someone please find out why? I have made no recent changes. Support have not got back to me yet. USERNAME <removed>,  hosted on Elara.

Thanks

It's not a good idea to publicly show your account name. Someone on your server might be able to use it to snoop around, and even change files, if your permissions allow that.

If you tell us the site (domain) name, at least someone could try to see if they can see the page(s). It might only be a communications glitch that's only affecting part of the Net. Are you getting to the page, but getting a DB connection message? Do you know if PHP and MySQL were recently updated on your server? If they were, perhaps something went wrong with the upgrade, or you're using an API so old that it's no longer supported (e.g., MySQL instead of MySQLi). Try going in with your control panel (cPanel or LPCP) and see if you can browse your database. If you can't, the DB server may have gone down, and need to be restarted by support.

Thank you for your reply and advice which are much appreciated.

Support have now not only responded but have fixed it by resetting a password I didn't even know I had in my wp-config.php file. Wonderful!
