How to connect to MySQL with DreamWeaver
« on: February 09, 2004, 01:04:02 AM »
create or open a new PHP File

1) new site

2)Yes I want to use server technology

3)which server technology: PHP MySQL

4)I chose to edit directly on FTP server using FTP

5)enter in your FTP details

ftp.domain.com
folder you want to access = public_html
login = cpanel username
password = cpanel pass

6)test the connection

7)insert your domain url minus the public_html

"http://www.domainname.com"

8)you can enable the check in out if you wish.

9)window>database> click the + and select MySQL connection

10) server details: I will use the ones you provided me with:

connection name = whatever you wish

MySQL Server = localhost

username = cpanelusername_username

password = xxxx

database = cpanelusername_databasename

I then hit test and it connected successfully.

IS there a way to specify the info in one file and have about 20 look at that. I know you can specify it once in one file and have it connect many times within that file.

Hi,
I've done all the stuff below and still can't connect - any ideas?

I get the following error when I test the DB connection:

HTTP Error code 404 File not found.....
1) There is no testing server running on the server machine.

Regards
Matt

Hi Matt,

I would suggest looking at this graphical tutorial instead:

http://twebman.lunarpages.com/mm/dw/remotemysql/

Step 1 in it includes setting up the testing server for your already existing and configured site.  Please ensure you do have a php document open at the time you try this, otherwise you will not be able to successfully connect.

Also, please provide your version of Dreamweaver (MX or MX 2004) so we can assist with exact instructions if you run into issues at any step in the process.

I hope this helps.

There's another thread around here somewhere about the same issue. The response at that time was that a more permanent location for the tutorial was being sought, but I don't think it's been found yet...
The above information may or may not reflect current policy, opinions, or views since it was likely made almost 10 years ago.

Figured it out. Needed to put the root directory in step 7 not /public_html. Should have read it more carefully. :hypno:

I am getting the HTTP Error Code 404.  File Not Found.  ....  1)There is no testing server running on the serer machine.  2) The testing server specified for this site does not map to the ..  /_mmServerScripts/MMHTTPDB.php URL.  Verify that the URL Prefix maps to the root of the site.

All of my settings are correct as per the instructions above.  I am running Dreamweaver CS3.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
