Title: Even the best of best has a question sometimes! :)
Post by: TigerAero on February 05, 2014, 11:57:04 AM
I know subject lines are usually reserved for the topic matter but...it's been years since I've been able to ask a question so I thought I'd make an event out of it.  :goof: haha :nope:

My question is, due to large amounts of spam, I'm starting to get a large amount of entries in my deny on my .htaccess. Now in the eyes of LP and shared hosting, would 40 or so entries start to cause any normal service degradation? Is there a soft limit I should look at before considering a different option?

My ideas behind this is (also, I'm a student going for a programming degree after 8 years army--so it's more theorycrafting then anything) .htaccess I assume is loaded before each page load so the larger that file is--the more service degradation could be expected--or no?

Thanks for anyone willing to read my mumblings. :)

Denying by IP alone is not effective nowadays. I am researching about spam signatures and see if I can make it work with htaccess, I doubt it but it's worth the shot. (https://Lunarpages.com/cat/6-5/smile2.png)
