What size would you recommend for a page? I'm building mine at 1024x768, but I'm afraid that 800x600 is the standar, looks like yahoo's is 800x600. does it matter too much? also, in dreamweaver mx, is it easy to resize the hole page at once? (how?) or do I have to resize every single table? Thank you !["" "[wiggle]"]("graemlins/wiggle.gif")

Quite a lot of people use 800x600 Higher resolutions are great, if your monitor can handle it, but you would be cutting out quite a lot of people if your site was only useable in 1024x768. 800x600 is still fairly popular. I use 1280x1024 !["" "[Cool]"]("cool.gif")

If you had to pick a 'standard' it would be 800x600. I try to design mine so that they look best a little below that, in the event that a user with 800x600 is not running full-screen.
If you use Dreamweaver, there's a small tab at the bottom of the page view window that shows the 'size' you're designing in. I think it actually defaults to 769x326 (unless I set that heheh) but that seems like a good size.

yes. The standard is still at 800*600 for most of the users on the net (percentage is above 60% i think) so it's better to design your site unless you know a lot of your users have a resolution above that one (i dont know if control panel keeps those statistics, havent played enough with it. You can always install a script that tells you !["" "[Smile]"]("smile.gif") ) Actually the better thing you can do is just design your table with old school tables (by just setting everything in percent of screen instead of pixel size and try using a lot of background images instead of just normal images. Its a bit harder but it will work with any resolution. Or most of them!) ...or by doing new school CSS positionning of text. Im just starting to get into it but it seems to be really really cool. They have several articles on macromedia's dreamweaver help site about it. Or just do a search for css on google and you'll find most of it Stephan...::shakes head:: Design for normal people

I do!
My websites all work at 640x480!
I meant on my personal computer, at home, for general use and browsing other people's websites, I use 1280x1024

Definitely use % instead of pixel sizes on 'main' tables! Nobody likes horizontal scroll bars (yukkk)! Also, the pages will look better in Netscape if you stay away from 100%. Use 99% instead. There is a difference (in NS). If there are issues with a graphic or bg image, just set your topmargin and leftmargin in body tag to 0. [ March 25, 2003, 10:01 AM: Message edited by: TWebMan ]

The majority of people use a resolution above 800x600 but most websites are still built under 800x600 simply because there is still people coming to sites under lower resoltions and webmasters don't want to annoy or bug those visitors. Those who use higher resolutions usually don't mind 800x600 because the sites still look good on their screens. Go with 800x600 I suggest !["" "[Wink]"]("wink.gif")

49% of the visitors to my site (I get about 200 per day) have their monitors set to 800x600. 34% use 1024x768, 3% are at 640x480.

So after this short welcome message to Eduardo, I can pass to discuss the problem. I also had many hesitations with resolution. I guess that another factor to consider is the target audience of your website. If your site is for people who deal with computer graphics, then you can increase your resolution to 1024x768 (oh, come on, even some 14inch monitors have this res.). I think it's time to raise the outdated standard. It will not happen if people still downsize to 800x600. It's the same as with monitors. Days ago there were basically only 14 inch monitors, some 2 years ago 15 inch monitors could be considered a standard, and now 17 inch monitors are massively used. I have never had any complaints from users with low resolutions, they just seem to understand that some things (like photos or graphics) cannot be presented at 800x600.

If your capable of it (and willing to spend the time) design your site to support 800x600 but at the same time, have it auto adjust to show right in a larger view. If your using complex tables with what appears to be a continuos graphic, you will soon see how challenging this can be! If you don't understand what I mean check out this page that I am in the process of designing for someone. It has a slight problem with 800x600 (shows a scroll bar in some browsers but all the content is still viewable). Try expanding it on your monitor, you will see that it shows the same in all views as if someone regenerated teh graphics to fit. If anything, most importantly.. try to make sure it doesn't always show up at 800x600 because if your running on a graphics workstation at 1200x 1600 that webpage will need magnification! Just my 2 cents! - Ed !["" "[implosion]"]("graemlins/implosion.gif")

Ok, Now I am using a 800x600 resolution, everything looks ok, but when I change the monitor's resolution to 1024x768 the page aligns to the left, not centered, does anyone have any idea why is this? looks so unprofessional, hehe. (not that I am a professional, but it just doesn't look good) By the way, I want to keep things as simple as possible, no fancy stuff like flash and stuff, well, maybe for some adds but that's it, no big graphics here, so using a 800x600 is no problem. Gracias por la bienvenida MikePL Thank you all, you guys rock!! !["" "[headbang]"]("graemlins/headbang.gif")

You could put code:
<center>
at the top of the page,
or you could make a big table, with one cell, with your whole website in it, and aligned centrally.
