Hello All,

Does anyone know how to convert mp3 into MIDI format? I'm wanting to have music on my pages background, and I hear this format is the way to go because it uses the least amount of bandwidth.

thanks!

It's not really very easy to do.

If you think about it, converting an analogue waveform to digital music is nearly impossible.

However, there is software to do it on www.download.com

It works best with just one instrument playing.

Also, if you search www.google.com for "convert mp3 to midi" or "convert wave to midi", you should come up with something.

You may have to convert your mp3 file to a wave file before the converting programs will accept it.

I have some apps that makes that, AVI - MIDI, but BAD!
I don't think there is a way to do it easy. The midi can't handle the "layers" of sound so when you try to convert it it picks out what it feels like.
I would be happy to know if you find something.

I agree, I did some research and it looks like it's going to be a pain. I think I'll pursue other options.
thanks!

why don't you look into something like a highly compressed mp3 or windows media file. even at ultra high compression it will sound better than a midi.

trie windows media encoder
this makes a 8 mb mp3 into a
1mb wav

then just simply add the wav to the background sound

Well, there is always that option,

The thing is, people with modems will never hear it, because it will take 10 minutes to download!

Most sites don't use background music. For example, www.lunarpages.com , www.google.com

There has to be a really good reason to use it. I don't think it's all that professional actually...

Thanks for the input guy's. I think I know the route I'm going to take. I agree with Stephan, while a music background may not hold the caliber of a professional web site, this one is strictly for personal knowledge and most importantly, fun..

well you have an options to encode for stream 33.6k mono
quality is really crappy but can be used for voice tutorials
it makes a 300k file out of a 4 mb mp3

Yeah, what I did was convert a mp3 to wma. The mp3 compressed from 5.24mb to 1.3mb, so I think I did ok. It seems to have kept most of the sound quality. I took a look at your site, and the sound loaded extremely fast on my end. It sounds great too, what format did you use?

Thanks!

I agree completely. If you are going to have music on your page (its a useless bell & whistle IMHO) have a way to disable it on the page as well.

A personal for fun site should still not be beyond good web design.
