Man I not sure where to post this.  My first time here so "Hello Everyone"
Anway here is my problem...  (please bear with me if this is a little long or confusing)
SOMEHOW a web site I have been working on has made duplicated files on the remote server (needless to say when I downloaded the files from the remote server back to my local site I got them also.... so both copies seem to be duplicate of one another at this point)
I am using FP2003, and I have the CPanel deal.
If I'm not mistaken, I can delete the files off via the CPanel off of the remote server, and then I'll have a carbon copy on my local site (or will it not delete the files already on my local server)

Here's where I seem to be.
At this point I don't suppose things could get much worse (except to delete the whole thing and have to start all over again)
Trying to avoid that at all costs.

SO I was gonna ask this.
I know on the remote server it has  the 'folders" of "Home" and then under that is
access-logs    (shows it's empty)
etc
mail              (also empty)
public_ftp      (also empty)
public_html
tmp              (next to nothing in this)
www

When you open up the public_html folder I look down the list of folders I see another public_html folder, and inside it is the same things as the initial public_html folder.  It also has the www folder, and inside it is the same stuff as in the initial www folder.
Now when I open up the 'second' public_html folder it also has a public_html folder insode it, and it has all the same items as the initial public_html folder (and same with the www folder)
Hope all this sin't to confusing...

SO I need to know a couple different things.  WHAT (or how do I go about) deleting all the duplicate items and know for sure which are the right files to NOT mess up the web site.
Also.. does anyone know how this happened, and how I would prevent it from happening again.

I am working on another web site also, and I have had no issues of duplicate files, and everything seems to be functioning at 100%.
HEEEEEELLLLLPPPPP
I do not want to have to delete this entire web site and start over.  It has multiple pages, and tons of images, etc.
Thanks for anyone that can help.  Feel free to post here, drop me a message here,  or email me dirrect.
This guy is wanting some changes made to his site, and right now it shows 200/200 MB used.  SO I am stuck and can't do anything until I correct this issue.

First of all, ignore "www". It is an alias for "public_html" -- there is only one copy of directories and files between them.

As for "public_html" having multiple nested copies, including another "public_html", that sounds like a problem when uploading or downloading to the wrong place. Do you use a site builder such as Dreamweaver or Expression Web? If so, it may be misconfigured. Unless you have reason to believe that your most recent (good) files are in one of the lower levels, you can go ahead and erase everything in the nested "public_html" and below, leaving just the top level "public_html" and its files. Those are the ones that will be displayed when the site is viewed.
