You know, Dreamweaver 4.0 (and probably 3.0) can do image maps too. I didn't know that till I figured it out on accident. If you already have Dreamweaver its great because then you don't need another program.

---Lesson Time---
In dreamweaver, on the properties bar (the long horizontal floating one) there is an arrow on the bottom right of the box pointing down, click on it to expand the box. Then click on the image you want to map, and the options in it change. Click on one of the buttons with light blue symbols. The square makes a sqare image map link, the circle makes a cicle, and the polygon one is a freehand tool. All very useful. To assign a link (and target it needed), click on the mapped section (or hotspot - it appears in light blue) and then go back to the properties bar, there should be places to type in the link and choose a target. Have fun and experiment. Its a good tool.

Yup.  Dreamweaver's image mapping function is one of the best and easiest I've used.

Another nice thing about DW is that it just puts a simple map tag right on the page.  Many times people forget that what you can do with HTML there's no need to do with scripting.

hi, everyone,

i agree completely with the endorsement of DW to handle image maps...quite excellent and my tool of choice for the job..

also, 3 popular image programs have the tools for creating image maps while editing the image and exporting the code for insertion into your web page. Fireworks, ImageReady2.0 (comes w/ Photoshop) and PaintShopPro all will let you create image maps.

i've used both FW and IR code and it's no problem...

alright, that's it for me...

How about "imagemapic"?

It's 55k, just one single exe file.

It's simple, but it does the trick and it's free!
