What would I need to do to prevent my download files from being, I think the term is, leeched?

There is a script here
http://www.lunarpages.com/cyberschool/

that will prevent pages from being linked to by others.Im not sure if you can apply this to specific download url`s but check it out. There may also be scripts im not aware of doing exactly what you are looking for.

I cant reach this site right now so i cant check it for you. It`s a Lunar members site and i think it will be back soon.

Turn the hot link protection on in your cpanel. It will protect you from people linking directly to your files.

All they can link to then is your html files

Thanks for the reply Max,
but I can still access all of the exe and zip extensions, by typing in the url to the file.

Under HotLink Protection, at the top it has: Urls to Allow Access: There it has all possible URLs to my site. Under that it has: Extensions to allow (seperate by commas): It has the following extensions in there already: jpg, jpeg, gif, png, bmp
When I activated it, I was still able to pull up any .zip or .exe file.

I tried adding the exe and zip extensions to the"Extensions to allow", but I was still able to access all the zip and exe files by typing in the complete URL to the file.

Am I doing something wrong?

My Cyberschool pages don't prevent leeching zip or exe files.

These link should do the job for you:

anti-leech.com

antileech.net

Good luck!

I appreciate the links, prof. If the HotLinks option in the control panel is supposed to protect your links, I'd like to get it to work, but if not, at least I have something to fall back on now. Has anyone used the HotLinks option to protect files from beeing leeched? If so, can you tell me how you got it to work?
Thanks

You can allways rename a exe to a jpg and that would work.

if you can create the .htaccess file in the folder, something like
code:
AuthUserFile /dev/null
AuthGroupFile /dev/null
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http://yourwebsite.com/ [NC]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http://www.yourwebsite.com/ [NC]
Rewriterule [^/]+\.(gif|jpg)$ http://www.yourwebsite.com/stopyourleeching.html [R]

This just looks at gif, jpg files but I guess your could add other.  I got this from somewhere so I don't know much about it. but I installed and it worked for me.
