why do i have troubles with css and tables with the opera browser?  for css, on one page sometimes it shows and sometimes the text is just black (bad for a dk gray bg!) and tables are always the default 3d lookin even if i specify bordercolor=XXXXXX.

There is many things that doesn't work in Opera.
It is getting better each time.
