I'm trying to add a connection to my website in My Network Places (I'm using Windows XP), but for some reason it won't connect. Is this a security feature at LunarPages, or am I doing something wrong?

I've tried entering the address like http://ftp://ftp.mydomainname.com and http://ftp://ftp.mydomainname.com/public_html/ but neither works. I also told it not to connect anonymously and entered my user name.

This isn't really a big problem because I can still connect using an FTP client (I use SmartFTP).

Delete the folder from "my network Places"
open a browser and type in http://ftp://galaxy or your servername.lunarpages.com

You will then be prompted with a popup that asks you for your username and password.
enter these and it will connect you to your server, (Don't use anonymous)
Tick the "remember this password" box.
You then have the option to add this information to a folder in "my network places".
This should work fine for you Smile

That worked... once. I was able to see my files the first time I tried what you suggested, but then I closed the window and tried to connect again and got the same error message I was getting before:

Quote
An error occurred opening that folder on the FTP server. Make sure you have permission to access that folder.

Details:
The connection with the server was reset

Did you delete the folder from "My Network Places"?
it might be trying to read the details from that Smile

Yep, I deleted it and even rebooted my computer to make sure the settings weren't in memory still.

Hi Kel,
I just checked with mine, as I'm using XP also and it works fine.
I'll leave a message in admin for this topic and see if anyone else can see why it isn't working for you, if that's ok. Smile

That would be great. Thanks for your help. Smile

Could it be my Linksys router causing the problem? I think it acts like a firewall, so maybe it's blocking the connection.

Woo-hoo!  Surprised

I think I figured out what I was doing wrong... I went into the Internet Explorer options and checked the box that says "Use passive FTP" in the advanced tab. It seems to be working so far. Smile
