Hello all, a long time ago I had a site at Host A that I grew out of, but one feature that I really liked was the built in AWStats...

So when I found my next host with a full CPanel setup with a number of stats options, including AWStats, I thought I was set.

One thing bothered me. When I was at Host A a few years ago, AWStats would tell me the exact referring URL of every person linked to the site. So if my site, for instance, was discussed on a web forum, I could go straight to the exact post and see what people were saying.

However, with my current host, pretty much all of the forum referrals are broken links that lead a to a "need to registered" page such as post.php or something similar.

I never really put the time into looking into it... Now I really want to have the feature and contacted tech support I am told it's unavailable, because it will hurt the performance of the [shared] server for all on it and cause a strain on it as well.

Is this common practice these days? Or are there still shared hosting plans that offer the COMPREHENSIVE statistics that aren't going to be crippled at default settings? I am thinking about changing hosts since I don't think this is very reasonable and I really want the feature. Can anyone suggest any hosts that might offer this so I can compare prices/plans/etc...?

Thanks for your help.
