Is there a limit to the number of characters in a domain name?  If so, what is the limit?  What about a sub domain?

Also, is the URL for the following sub domain syntactically correct?
http://we-repair-stoves.appliances.com

Thanks in advance.

I believe it's 67 characters, including the dots and the www and com...that is, the entire domain.

I'll keep any domain names (plus subs) well under 60 characters.  I trust sub directories and file name are not included in the 67/68 limit.  Thanks for this helpful info.

The limit should simply be your domain:

domain.ext

eg: jokeawhenever.com
bobsfantasticallonedomainname.net

those are what have the limit the actualy URL length doesn't matter (for all practical purposes).. its really just browser and server dependant, there is not 'law' on the max length of those!

netsol won't register a domain with more than 63 characters, not including the www. or the .com  So include the TLD and it's 67.
