Hello.

I have what I HOPE is a quick question. Please pardon me in advance if this answer is somewhere on your website...I've been searching webhosting and domain name information all over the place for the last few hours. I'm surprised my eyeballs haven't popped out and headed for the hills!

I just registered a domain name with the other hosting company. I currently have a website with FortuneCity.com, but I'm rather fed up with their LACK of customer service, and looking to move. Plus, I think I've finally realized that with FC, they'll allow forwarding only, which is not what I wanted.

If I understand correctly...forwarding is like this: I type in www.mydomainname.com..and that will just redirect to my FC website. After it does that, what will appear in the browser addy bar, is NOT www.mydomainname.com, but members.fortunecity.com/therestrighthere.

If I choose the free option here...will I be able to hook up my domain name directly? (I'm still learning correct terminology, I know that sounds off.) Meaning...if I type in www.mydomainname.com...will that addy remain in the web browser? Or will it 'change' to something else?

I hope I haven't been too unclear with my question.

Thanks in advance!

Glad I caught you on chat.  One thing, though, if you've gone and registered a domain, you probably want to look into getting a regular hosting service.  The (fewer and fewer) free services available don't usually host domains, and those that do usually have some strings attached.  Lunar's hosting service is top-notch, as I'm sure you'll find out as you shop and compare.  Good luck!

I think my question fits in here, I want to dump my current web host and move to LunarPages...but at the same time, I still have $$$ and time and space on that host. What do I need to do to move my domain name to Lunar Pages?  I want to sign up for the paid service (I've been really impressed with the free service...and I want to upgrade)-would it be easier to register a new domain name? And start fresh ?  Does lunarpages offer POP mail service? (Will I be able to use myname@mydomainname.com and Outlook?) Thanks in advance for your help...hope this is not too vague.

You can easily move your domain once you get a pay site.  Lunar does provide email services through the web and POP client.  There are some changes going on, but they all seem to be for the better.  Once you've signed up, to move your domain:
1. Go to your domain registrar (whoever you got your domain through) and login (or whatever you need to do to manage your domain-all the registrars use different methods) and modify your DNS OR DOMAIN NAMESERVERS(S) to the ones you'll receive in the Welcome email from Lunar Pages after signing up.
2. Send an email to support@lunarpages.com indicating:
your domain name
your account name
The fact that you have modified the above domain to point to the above account's root directory.

That should do it.

I'm glad too! And YES I know it was a right place right time thing, but you didn't HAVE to do that.

Customer service is a big thing with me. With you helping me the other night, and seeing the help given here, I'm beyond impressed.

I do have my domain name..and it is now pointing at my FortuneCity site..but at least I have it, and that's a start.

I'm a very 'basic' person for web design. But I do have to say, what I know, I taught myself. I learn pretty fast, especially once I get myself pointed in the right direction!

For what I know how to do...Lunarpages would be perfect for me. For the services that are offered, I'll learn them eventually I'm sure.

When I have my own job...which probably won't be before too much longer, I'm getting a little bored at home! LOL!!...I'll be back to claim my own little space here!
