First of all, I tried really hard to resolve this technical problem via your normal ticket system (ticket ID 2458650) but this seems to go nowhere after very long time. May I please ask a senior technical staff to look into this problem for me?

During my recent effort to optimize the performance of my site 'go4go.net', I removed a large collection of scripts. I delete those files from the File Manager with CPanel and I can no longer see them on the server (either via CPanel or via an FTP client). But those files are still being served and I can still access them from a web browser. So there must be a ghost copy of my files left elsewhere when my site was moved among your servers.

For example, please try this URL from a browser: http://www.go4go.net/sgfview.jsp?id=17754
I have deleted the file 'sgfview.jsp' from the document but the page still shows on my screen (and more seriously, counts towards my resource usage).

I reported this problem 10 days ago and wrote several lengthy emails to explain the problem. I only received a number of replies which are irrelevant. I quote the latest reply here:

"We have checked your account and we found that the sgfview.jsp script is still located inside your account:
/home/....../public_html/cngo/modules/collection/sgfview.php
/home/....../public_html/v2/modules/collection/sgfview.php
Please review your account and remove the files......"

I guess people with just a little bit technical background can see the absurdity in this reply, which could not even tell the difference between jsp and php.

Again, may I ask a senior technical staff to look into this? And would you please treat this as a matter of urgency?

Well, your site is still serving the sgfview.jsp file, as I just called it up and have never been to your site before. You say you've checked with File Manager (and FTP) that /home/ACCOUNT/public_html/ definitely does not contain that file? BTW, you should never give your account name out on a public forum like this... Is this a primary domain or an add-on? Do you have an .htaccess file that is possibly redirecting a request for that file from the site root to some other directory, or even to another site? You can see other file names starting with a dot (not hidden from you)? Are you sure you're looking in the right place, after accounting for any URL rewriting, parked domains, add-on domains, etc.? Have you ever done anything with DNS record modifications that could be sending requests to who knows where?

MrPhil, thanks for your suggestions. I modified the original post to remove a reference to the account name. I indeed appreciate that I should not really rely on a public forum to solve a technical problem on the server. But the frustration is that using the ticket system really got nowhere and I hope (maybe a false hope) that posting here may help the speed things up a bit.

The problem is with my main domain. There is an .htaccess file which I use to deny certain IPs and redirect certain traffics in order to block spams. But these do not seem to cause the problem I reported as far as I can see (I am a IT professional as well). I double-checked the files and they are indeed not on the server. I have not modified my DNS records.

One likely scenario is that the system people changed some records (maybe DNS) of my account when it was temporarily moved to another server for high resource usage and forgot to change things back. This happened once before over my 8-year stay with Lunarpages. I really need a senior technical staff who has these knowledges to look into the problem.

Ah, so you were temporarily on another server (with all these old files), and possibly visitors are still getting pointed to that site? How long ago were you moved back? More than 3 days? Every DNS server in the world should be updated by now, so that would suggest that LP messed up your DNS entries somehow. Do you have evidence that your site is "frozen" at the old files and nothing you do on your "current" site has any effect? (e.g., add a new file xyz.html and see if it's accessible from the Web) That's something you could tell LP.

This is what I can gather from my communications with the support team: when there is problem with a site (say it consumes too much resource on the shared server), it is moved to a temp server so that the site owner has a chance to fix the problem. Technically this must involve change of DNS records. This happened to me once in 2009. But that time the problem was quickly fixed.

This time the problem happened more than 10 days ago - so it is not about DNS propagation.

I follow your suggestion to try to collect more evidence. I created a new html page and upload it to the server. When I tried to access that file, I got a 404 Not Found error! So it I am now 100% sure that my site was served from a different server! I did not find this out earlier because somehow the database was synchronized properly so that I can still update my site as long as I am not creating any new pages.

I will pass this information to the support team. It is really frustrating that for nearly two weeks I haven't got the luck to find a staff who truly understands the technical problem.
