Alright, let's say I find a host that has great prices and I'm interested in checking them out further... but... they have a really... well, plain and basic website? HTML only, nothing flashy, just a simple website. Prices are great, information is plentiful with forums & support pages, but nothing flashy.

How much emphasis do you put on a web hosting provider's website? I know many are purchasing templates and such now and just throwing up "flashy" sites, but I guess to me service/pricing/support is more important?

Your thoughts?

Judging a book by its cover? Well, you can look at it in two ways. One is, they choose to spend their money on equipment and support, and let their site be fairly plain. Or, they might not have the technical competence or the funds to do a fancy site. The other is that they want to put on good appearances, and build a really glitzy set of pages. Then you might wonder if they spent all their money on their pages, and have nothing left for support.

I would go with what's stated on the support forums, from actual customers, as well as off-site reviews. Don't judge by their pages, unless they're so basic that they don't get the job done (can't order something, can't contact for questions or feedback, etc.).
