Is it possible to modify files on a web site without having to upload them? For example, if I have a Word document on my web site can I create user accounts so that they can modify the file without having to upload it via ftp?
So, if someone logs in and opens the Word document, can they just save the changes on the web site?  Is there a possible script for that?

You should be able to find a script to allow users to login and edit a file. A Word document may prove to be a bit more challenging though!

Word files are very complicated.

The chances of you finding a script that will turn normal text into a word document are very low.

It isn't work in a way where you modify the script directly. Usually tools like CuteFTP will download the file to your HDD, then you modified it and click save, it then upload the file again. But you didn't see the process, you just click edit and you have the file open in word and then you save and exit and the file is uploaded back again.
