i can't seem to use mod_perl directives (PerlHander and PerlSetVar for instance) in .htaccess in my lunarpages account.

why is this?

It could have to do with suexec permissions.. you cannot just run perl / cgi any way you want. It would be too insecure in a shared hosting environment.
