Just bought space tonight on Lunar Pages to move my litmag from another host.

(1) I am transferring a domain name and don't quite get how that works and how long it will take.

(2) I have questions about the mail services. The ads say unlimited mail accounts, but is that some redirecting system, or will I be allowed to have individual mailboxes for each of my editors (there are 4 of them at the moment) each named for an editor (jimwhorton@publicscrutiny.net)?

(3) Will I be able to use FrontPage 2002 to upload via HTTP?

(4) Are your stats prepared and delivered automatically, or do I have to pick them up?

(5) Are the stats analyzed (ie presented as no of hits, no. of pages served, no. of failed, no. of unique visitors, etc etc, complete with graphs etc.)?

(6)One msg I read indicated that someone transferring a domain name from another web hosting service needs to go to Vario or wherever and make changes -- is this not something done by Lunar Pages as part of service of transferring a domain?

(7) Where is Lunar Pages physically in the world?

Thanks for your help,

Transferring the domain name will take at least 48 hours. This is a limitation of the internet, it takes time to update (the DNS servers across the world)

You will have to e-mail support@lunarpages.com to get it done and for more details.

What it said about the e-mail is right, unlimited POP3 mailboxes. Redirecting is also possible, if you like.

The servers have "Frontpage extensions", they can be installed from your control panel (CPanel). You should only do this once, to set them up.

The stats are also accessed through the CPanel, it is a webpage you visit, with lots of information. Raw access logs are also available.

The stats are fully analyised as you described.

The way you transfer your domain depends on who it is registered with. If you need help, lunarpages can probably help you.

Lunarpages is in Los Angeles, USA.

I hope that helps! If you have any other problems, go ahead and ask, there are lots of people here to help.

Hope you like lunarpages   "[Smile]"

Thanks for the notes. I talked to folks in Cali today and got my DNS numbers changed, though I am still waiting for them to propagate. I ftp's my begining materials to the site, but i note when using the file manager that my files are both inside of and outside of the public_html directory, so i figure i got something wrong there.

Anyway, so far so good. Hope I have no problems here at lunar pgs.

Cheers--

That's good.

You will need to wait 48 hours for the DNS servers to update. Maybe less...

All the files for your website that you want people to access should be in public_html.

There are other folders outside of public_html, for the most part, these can be left alone.

Good luck.

ok, the domain name is now connecting to my site at lunarpages.

now i have this problem--if i try to http directly with Frontpage 2002 i get the message "Unable to open," etc., with the 4 propositions that the extensions are not installed, etc

extension are installed, and reinstalled tonight.

thus how do i http to the site up (i did it by ftp, but prefer http).

should I go just to the site name, such as
http://wwwpublicscrutiny.net/

or should i go to the public_html, as in

http://wwwpublicscrutiny.net/public_html

Read the email that was sent as a response to your support ticket.

You should only connect with http://www.publicscrutiny.net and nothing else, when your domain name has been propagated correctly.

Do NOT include the public_html, as when connecting over http with Frontpage, you will already be in it.

Now I can't even get to the one that I put there by ftp.

This is an inauspicious beginning. maybe i'd better look for a different hosting co.

the address should have long since propagated to your servers. it's set that way at netsol. now i got another mess.

Ok, I will try to help you and see if we can sort out the problem.

If connecting via ftp, you should connect using your domain name as the host, and your normal username and password, which you will have recieved in the e-mail you got when you signed up.

When you are connected, you will see several folders, put all the files you want to upload inside public_html.

Your address can take up to 72 hours to propogate.

There is no need for you to search for another hosting company, I am sure we can find out what the problem is   "[Smile]"

What is it that you mean when you say "Now I can't even get to the one that I put there by ftp."

Are you talking about using FTP?
Do you mean getting access to a file with your web browser?
