"[confused]"

I'm new to Lunarpages and I think that it's great that they offer so many capabilities for such a low price!

I've been going through all of the control panel options but I'm a little confused about a few things.

Here's what I want to do:

I have two domains, myname.net and myname.org.  I had myname.org parked at myname.net, but I've changed this to an add-on domain to myname.net and pointing to www.myname.net/org.  Is this the correct way to do this?

- I was under the impression that this would allow me to receive e-mail for both tom@myname.net and tom@myname.org.  Can this be done?  If so, what do I need to do to accomplish this (other than host myname.org separately)?  My eventual goal with e-mail is to have everyone in my family have their own e-mail address as name@myname.org.  Is this possible?  (Remember, the myname.org domain is an add-on domain.)  In the control panel, I was able to set up a tom@myname.org e-mail address when myname.org was parked at myname.net, but since I've changed it over to a add-on domain, I dont' have this option, only tom@org.myname.net.

- I want two sub domains, tom.myname.net and sue.myname.net.  I was under the impression that if I set up sub domains that I could access them at at www.tom.myname.net or tom.myname.net.  This doesn't seem to be working though.  I have them redirected to myname.net/tom and myname.net/sue.  There's an index.html file in each of those directories but they don't even display when I go to www.myname.net/tom or www.myname.net/sue.  My eventual goal here is to have everyone in my family have a Web page at theirname.myname.org.  Is this possible?  Again, remember that myname.org is an add-on domain.

- Will having myname.org, redirected to www.myname.net/org, allow me to browse to www.myname.org and will the address bar show as www.myname.org or www.myname.net/org?

I hope that this made sense!  Thanks!

A parked domain will point to your root, the same place your main domain points.

Sub domains must be activated first.  Just send an email to support@lunarpages.com and ask them to activate subdomains on your account.

An addon domain acts like a subdoman.  It will point to a directory inside your root.  The corresponding links in Control Panel will help you set them up.

Ok, I got the subdomains to work, but not the way I expected.  First I removed the redirections and then removed the sub domains.  I re-created the sub domains and now I have tom.myname.net and sue.myname.net, but they're not redirected.  They are also accessible at www.myname.net/tom and www.myname.net/sue.

Can anyone offer some insight on my other questions?  Thanks!

Thanks, TWebMan, I didn't even see your post when I replied to myself.

I understand the difference between a parked domain (which I had) and a add-on domain (which I now have).  I contacted support and had them activate an add-on domain for my account.  When the domain was parked I was able to have a tom@myname.org e-mail, but now that it's an add-on domain, I don't have any options to set up e-mail accounts for myname.org, only org.myname.net.  Even though I set myname.org up in the add-on domain it doesn't show as an add-on domain and there's nothing in the "Delete" pulldown menu.

Browsing to www.myname.org gets redirected to lunarpages.com, so maybe my DNS isn't quite straightened out yet on the .org domain.

If you don't set up a redirect, the subdomain will point to corresponding directory names in your public_html directory.  You need do nothing else, if that's where you want them.  DON'T set up redirects unless you want, say tom.myname.net to point to something besides public_html/tom

Actually, I do see a glitch.  I just tried to create a sub and it didn't work.  I have other subs working fine.  I'll get a letter to support.

Ok, it works just as you said.  Without the redirection the sub domain worked fine.  I added the redirection of tom.myname.net to www.myname.net/tom and it went into an endless loop.  I removed the redirection and now it works fine again.  One problem solved!

Ok, I've got this all worked out now except for one small thing.

It appears that the add-on domain wasn't working correctly because the DNS hadn't propagated completely yet.  Then it was discovered that there was a problem with a DNS entry on the server which had to be reloaded.  My siblings now all have their own e-mail addresses, <name>@myname.org.

The sub domains are all working with one exception.  I can't get a sub domain to work on an add-on domain.

Example:  cathi.myname.net works, but with the add-on domain of myname.org, I can't get cathi.myname.org to work.

Creating a sub-domain in the add-on domain created a directory under /public-html, just like a regular sub domain.  If I browse to cathi.myname.org, it shows the index page for myname.org.  I even tried redirecting it to  www.myname.net/cathi, but that didn't work either.  Is this even possible?

Don't think you can do subs for addons, though I'm not sure.  I tried to do one for one of mine and it didn't work.  That is, it just points to the root of the subdomain.  I tried a redirect, and that didn't work.

The subs are working fine, however, for my main domain.

That's right, you cannot add a subdomain on an addon domain.
