hiya.
people link me in their sites using HTNL codes. but they complain that the baners never apear in their site? what's wrong? doesn't lunar pages allow direct linking? i need to promote my site you know....

They cannot link directly to a picture or other file like that, they can only link to an html page (or php etc)

This is to minimise abuse from nasty people!

Paid accounts allow this though, "hotlinking"

they will have to serve your banner from their own hosting account...

as a webmaster..you will find very few sites that you link to that will allow you to link to "Their" images at their account...they will require you to upload it to your own account ...and link it from there...so as to not use all of their bandwidth they are paying for.

well i understand. ppl at lunarpages are afraid people might take advantage of the disk space and not use it as a main page?

Hotlinking is basically the same as bandwidth theft.  While most people will just run a banner on a few sites,s ome people will upload an image which is called millions of times a day at the expense of lunarpages.  Unlike a page view, image hotlinking can not display a banner or anything similar and therefore is a 100% cost situation which is why we do not allow it.

As others have stated, most people will want to host their own banners as it keeps sites loading quickly without any possible lag from internet connection problems.
