I got this strange message today from lunarpages:
=========
Hi,

Recently your account was utilizing excessive resources and putting load on server, making it unstable. Details are as follows:

A detail of the problem is shown below as:

CPU:        2.93 %
Memory:     4.14 %
Mysql:      0.1 %

public_html/vb/attachment.php
As a result, we had to rename your script to vb/attachment.php.disabled

Please check your scripts are optimized and up to date.

Please note that the acceptable usage range for shared plans is
1.0% average %CPU or less, 1.0% average %Memory or less, 0.2% for MySQL or less and Top Processes
below 20%.

If you require a higher usage then allowed on shared servers you might want to try a dedicated plan.

Details on dedicated plans can be found here:

Dedicated Plan http://www.lpdedicated.com

I hope this information is helpful.
============================================
I am running Vbulletin 3.8.4 which is one of the latest VB updates and I have numerous accounts with lunarpages and all running forums and never had this kind of complaint before on any of them.
If lunar decided to rename this file, my whole forum will collapse and be useless.
This is my 2nd year running this forum and it doesn't have more than 100 members as it is a school forum and total attachment over last year wasn't more than 140MB so what's up with lunar?

If you continue this strange policy, you'll have to cancel all accounts running VBulletin boards.
I hope you reconsider this bad decision or I ask for a full refund and I will move. I am already paying 107$ a year for around 300MB of the total website and I can get it a lot cheaper else where but I have grown fond of lunarpages. Sad

I have answered there support ticket but I want to see what other members think of this treatment I am getting.

I would work with support to get your site back up.

Check your vB for exploits. Even if you're running the latest you could've still been exploited before. Also it would be good to compare a fresh download, to your current vB to ensure the same files are there, it isn't any "new" ones, etc.

Haven't got a reply from support yet. I did check although anyone running vb knows that the file is harmless and essential for running the forum. I tried to download an attached file now and wasn't able to since vb is looking for attachment.php which was renamed. Now all attached files are useless. Sad

I would recommend checking out this post from the wiki:

http://wiki.lunarpages.com/Resource_Usage_Suspension

After a few threads like this that seem to talk about the same problems, thought it would be a good idea to explain the process, what happens, and what to expect in more detail - to help everybody out.  Hope it comes in handy.

That's not the point (that Matthew Alan was making). That script, or some other one in your vB installation, may have been hacked. At the very least, check the time and date of all your files and see if there's anything inexplicably recent (that you didn't change recently, and doesn't get regularly changed, like a mail file). If you upgraded recently, you still may have something left from an exploit to the earlier version. If members are allowed to upload image files (attachments or avatars), are there any protections to scan for embedded scripts or an (.htaccess file) ban on the running of files in the attachment or image directories? I know that SMF was plagued by this problem prior to the 1.1.10 version.

A problem I experienced more than once with multiple forum engines ,

It could be that someone is plain jealous of your forum and your members list or search is available for guests. Easy to mysql flood your forum. Not allowing to view the members list or making a forum search available for guests could drop this excessive resource usage.

Now from my experience also is that vB is a resource hog compared to other forum engines, smf is pretty light weight compared to vB yet same resource usage problems could happen with a public search/members list.

If there is a lot of image processing using GD to create thumbnails and resize large images, you may end up on the wrong side of the CPU/memory limits.

Happened again today  Sad. I searched and found this thread. I forgot it existed...age I guess. Anyways, thanks to all the suggestions here. Appreciated.
I just want to know one thing. Can I change back my "script" name to what it was and work on turning resources down? I have contacted support once then after an hour again but no reply. I know I shouldn't reply to a ticket more than once before getting a reply, but put yourself in my shoes...can't have my forum offline for days...
So, please, any one tell me if it's ok to change it back or not. The server loads look way normal. I checked through my LP CP.

The simplest solution would simply be to wait for support to get back to you and work with them.

Plus one, this is the answer why your file was using so many resoruces. Someone on your forum tried to upload a file that was too large or some photos.

I have been waiting on support. A day now...no sound.

As to uploading large images, the max. allowed image size is 2 MB and it never reaches that size. I have done a lot of tweaking in my Vbulletin and I am sure the steps I have taken will reduce resource consumption a lot. Thank you.

Can I ask how many clients are on each server in the sharing host accounts? How much is normal?

Still no reply from support. You have to agree that this is too much. I tweaked and tweaked all day yesterday in my forum to cut down on resources. I did all I can do but I need a reply from support.  Sad

Changes usually have to be monitored over some time, before server admins are get back to you to make sure your changes you made actually have an effect on the problem at large.  Also, make sure you do not reply to yourself via the help desk ticket, as that will bump you down in the order of tickets being answered.  Only reply to a ticket once support has replied to you first.
