Hello, sorry if this is posted in the wrong forum, but this seemed like as good a fit as any.  So here goes:

I have a site on limu.lunarpages.com .  Even the simplest "hello world" html page, when requested from lynx on my local machine, gives a 406 error.  However, this same html page when served up from a site living on telos.lunarpages.com , it serves up fine.  Obviously there are some differences in the config between limu and telos, limu is using apache 2.0.63 and telos is using 1.3.39 .  However, I have a fairly good approximation of limu in a centos 4 VM that I set up, including an instance of apache 2.0.63 built from vanilla source using (presumably) the same ./configure options, i.e.

"./configure" \
"--enable-expires" \
"--enable-headers" \
"--enable-info" \
"--enable-logio" \
"--enable-mime-magic" \
"--enable-rewrite" \
"--enable-speling" \
"--enable-ssl" \
"--enable-suexec" \
"--enable-unique-id" \
"--prefix=/usr/local/apache" \
"--with-included-apr" \
"--with-ssl=/usr" \
"--with-suexec-caller=nobody" \
"--with-suexec-docroot=/" \
"--with-suexec-gidmin=100" \
"--with-suexec-logfile=/usr/local/apache/logs/suexec_log" \
"--with-suexec-uidmin=100" \
"--with-suexec-userdir=public_html"

When running this version of apache, lynx connects.  When googling, I had found some references to a bug with certain versions of Lynx when requesting pages from servers that supported transparent content negotiation (TCN), such as apache 1.3.40 and newer.  I also found references to problems when mod_security was enabled.  As I can't see the specifics of how limu is configured (i.e. httpd.conf and friends), I have no idea what specifically is the problem.

Why do I care?  Well, I don't really, directly.  But I have been told that many SEO types use http://www.yellowpipe.com/yis/tools/lynx/lynx_viewer.php to get an approximation of what spiders see, such as googlebot.  For what it's worth, I do know that googlebot can read the page, whatever problems with content negotiation that lynx is experiencing does not affect googlebot and all other spiders are relatively insignificant, but it would be nice to get to the bottom of this.

As far as I can tell, lynx can't read any site that lives on limu.  Please, if anyone else is on limu and can say otherwise, please pipe up.

Are there any other lunarpages servers out there running apache 2.0.63 that may not have this problem?  If so, could somone please pipe up as well.

Thank you,
Nathan Johnson
