So I have a forum setup that is quickly growing and for the most part its a great community. Lunarpages has been a great host for all my projects over the years so if bandwidth became an issue I would gladly pay more etc... so thats not a problem. The problem is there is some ITG (internet tough guy) who doesn't like the entire forum (he is afraid its going to draw traffic away from his forum or something like that....  Confused) so he is threatening to get the entire site taken down by contacting the host. He claims foul language and threats to him are what he is going to file a complaint as. He has even gone so far as to get my info from the DNS whois and call me at 4am Sad (I didn't respond and hung up right away) I've even sent him a loosely written cease and desist contacting me letter a lawyer in training drafted for me.

I can deal with the internet tough guy, but should I be worried that lunarpages will take down my site because he files a complaint?

IANAL, and I don't represent LP.

So long as your site doesn't violate US Federal or California state law, LP will leave it alone. This guy is just trying to stampede you. I've never heard of "foul language" being cause to take down a site. The matter of threats is a gray area. If you have an absolutely "hands off" control policy, and it's clearly stated that all opinions expressed are those of the poster and not yours, I don't see what grounds he'd have to get you taken down. On the other hand, if you do edit posts to remove threats and other unpleasantness, just make sure you remove threats aimed at him. It's certainly possible that this guy is posting threats against himself under false names -- be sure to record IP addresses, email addresses, and whatever else you can document when you remove posts and ban users -- maybe you'll have a pleasant surprise and find they're all coming from the same place. That would be a fun one to present in court...

Why wouldn't this be the correct place to ask your question?

Thanks man. Thats pretty much what I had in mind but wanted to hear someone else say it just for peace of mind.

As per where to ask this question, I posted it and saw a lot of the questions in this particular sub-forum were more technical in nature.

Thanks again.
