Just curious if anyone has run across the same thing happening to them--

on Friday 2/29 I was looking up a domain availability on Network Solutions for a friend of mine- we tried several variations and they were all available. So yesterday I call up Lunarpages to register one of the ones we had tried. The support person told me it was taken - Huh?  It was available a few days ago... so I looked it up at Network Solutions. They said it was available. So now I am really confused - I go to a different registrar - they also say it was taken. I looked  "Whois" to find all the names I tried on Friday are on hold by Network Solutions. Now, I am somewhat cynical and I have previously thought wow, a good strategy by someone would be to see what is searched for availability then someone could go and register them quick and sell them back at a higher price-- but it was all just a thought- Nah, no one would ACTUALLY do that.
Come to find out --- it appears Network Solutions did just that!!
Anyone else have this happen?

Yep, they register any and all domain searches for a number of days.  They say it is to "protect" the domain for you so that you won't have it stolen. If you need a good suggestion for a place to search for domains in the future I would highly suggest domaintools.com.  They provide a tons of domain name related tools.

Well, that's good to know it's real and not just me being paranoid))....   But it's not the way for them to win my business!  Thanks for the site domaintools.com  They have a lot of cool stuff to learn from- javascript:void(0);
Thumbs Up
