I've got a possible troll/member with multiple usernames on one of my forums.  How can I tell if an IP address is one used by multiple people, such as a library, starbucks, school, etc?

If it helps, what I'm looking at is
2 users with 205.188.116.135 and
2 users with 205.188.116.137

I would think the end user of that internet service would have their privacy protected by their ISP, you might log the offenses and the IP from where the offender originated and send this information to the ISP since the user may be violating their TOS with their ISP and get their service suspended.

In the mean time, if it were my site I would just ban both of those IP's.

If you require a real email address from a real ISP, as opposed to a free hotmail or gmail account, from your members when they register with you, and log the IP they used when registering, it could go a long way in helping you resolve problems like you are having.

Thanks, Hazard.Since then I've figured part of it out.  Those are AOL - and from what I've learned, alot of aol members use the same ip...and they change alot.

I deal with a lot of users on my sites, and use IP address checks to see if there are multiple users as well.

In the case of AOL I have seen IP addresses change as fast as I can refresh my pages Sad   Think they run on some kind of proxy system.

Generally, when I get AOL IP addresses, I look at other account specific features.   Amazing how many poeple signing up for multiple accounts, will claim to be individuals but they then use the same email address or password on signup. 

Even had a few use the password of one account, as the username of the next account  Confused
