Does anyone know of scripts that allow profiles to be made on a website, i.e. MySpace.  I need it for a business I'm trying to get going.  Thanks so much!

Do you mean, "create user profiles like they do on MySpace"? It all depends on how much of a user profile you need. Some packages such as SMF (a discussion board, used by LunarForums), permit a basic user profile. Have you looked on Hotscripts.com? What is this "user profile" going to be integrated into -- a discussion board, a file sharing system, a store,...? Is this profile information to be viewed by others, or just default settings for a store visit?

Community Builder (a component for Joomla) has profiles as well.  I'm sure there are others.

Yes, along the lines of myspace, only it will be professional information (what services provided, how long in business, size of company, etc.)  I want visitors to be able to do a search based on the type of service they need.

Thanks so much for your responses!

I'm clueless...

If user information ("profiles") is a major part of your site, I'd approach it differently. I'd build the site (or at least, this large section) around a CMS (Content Management System) which features "user information" with search. Lunarpages offers a number of these in the Fantastico scripts section of cPanel. Presumably every "user" gets an account and password, so they can maintain their information themselves? Visitors to the site (not just these "users") then get to search this information and pull up matching "users"?

Look at it from the perspective of yourself (how much work do you want to do maintaining profiles), your "users" (the ones who have "profiles" -- how much information do they want online, how much flexibility in layout and type of data do they want, can they edit and update it at their convenience, do they want all or part of the information restricted to registered viewers,...), and other visitors to the site (without "profiles" -- what kind of searching do they want to do, for what things, what are their computer skill levels, do they need to be locked out of certain information,...). Then you can make your choice as to whether you graft a "user profile" script onto the side of something else, or make this user information exchange system a major part of your site. It all depends on what you're doing with the site.

It is the main purpose of the site, for people to find other people/companies that fit their criteria for what service they need.

Thank you so much for your help MrPhil, I really appreciate it!
