I was wondering...I have 2 major sections of my website, the "discussions" (forum) and "guides" pre-written php files.

Both have all the exact same theme file.

What I have currently is each their own css files/images directory etc. (NOTE: All the "theming" files are the exact same for both areas.)

Is it ok if I change this to all link to the same css file and/or directory or is it better for the server to have seperate files for each?

I cannot see any reason not to use a common file- after all, the server calls are the same whether it's two or one file, so the load will be the same.
It's just easier to change if you have a single file.

On the server side it doesn't make a difference.  I'd go with one file for ease of maintenance.

ok...just to verify that we're on the same page.

lets say i have 500 files for guides and 500 files for chat/discussion areas.

its ok to have 1 theme file template.php for the 1,000 files vs. having 1 template.php for the 1st 500 and another for the 2nd 500?
