Hi,

My website - http://www.lenvica.in - is running on MySQL.

And now I notice that the MySQL doesn't support foreign keys. Hmm... and I don't want to upgrade to a dedicated server for switching the Engine from MyISAM to INNODB.

Another option I see is Firebird. But is Firebird free? Or will I have to pay for it as I'm already using MySQL?

And what should I do to start using Firebird.

Thanks,
Biju.

If you're on a shared server, you won't be able to install a new database system, such as Firebird. I believe you are limited to what database(s) are pre-installed on your system. On a VPS, perhaps (I don't know -- you'll have to ask the support desk).

Are you actually making use of foreign keys in your application? IIRC, MySQL will allow foreign keys to be defined, but will ignore them (they're not actually implemented, just tolerated). If you really need the functionality of foreign keys, you'll have to upgrade to a system that permits InnoDB (VPS? Dedicated?) or lets you install another database (e.g., Firebird).
