Updated 10/06/08: I found that instead of dealing with the issue of manually setting the password and having to check when a payment is received so I can e-mail the book, I found that e-junkie provides this service for about 5 bucks a month. After paypal payment, the page is redirected to e-junkie where their server verifies the payment and then automaticlly provides them with a download link. They store the file on their secure server that way I don't have to deal with it security issues. The biggest issue I will have is when the consumer downloads it and passes it around, but I'm going to password protect the PDF file, If they pass if around, i can't prevent that, but if search engines pick up the PDF file then the person searching won't have the password.
Kool, sounds great. Here is the ideal way I would like for it to work.
Client is on the sales page, they purchase the e-book, paypal does the transaction then my registration page shows up, they fill it out and are automatically registered as an affiliate to my site (I will be having a hosted affiliate software hosted else where that way I don't have to deal with installation) and at the same time they receive the e-book which requires a login to the directory. Therefore the registration form has to communicate with the directory and automatically give them access and at the same time register them as an affiliate.Thats it, very simple. The security issue is that if someone type's in the URL for the Redirected page after paypal and fillout the form, they will gain access for free.
Now here's the way I'm going about it now:
Client is on sales page, they purchase the book and paypal redirects them to a form which they submit, afterwards when I receive the email with the information, I manually go to the passwords protect directory, add them as a user and email them the e-book manually with the login information. Then I go to the affiliate management with the information they provided I manually sign them up as an affiliate. As far as security issues I think this is better but as far as client service It doesn't provide the instant access. Plus if I'm away from the PC for a few hours this would delay the transaction and clients want their product right away.
I have thought of maybe after the payment to send the client to the affiliate registration form only, but then I do I send them the book and I would still have the issue of people registering and gaining access without paying.
I also thought that if I send them the book directly after payment, redirecting them to the file itself but then I would not be able to password protect it, how would they automatically be registered as an affiliate?
Someone on this forum once adviced that Payloadz is a service which can handle pretty which what I want, but I'm trying to learn how to do all of this myself. I guess one problem is that I'm trying to complete 2 separate member registration with 1 form. I'm looking to take away some of the manual work I need to do, I know there are plenty of better ways to do what I'm trying to do. I want to make everything as automatic as possible. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.
